Recent Developments in Copyright Law. Tara Wheatland of Jermain, Dunnagan & Owens, P.C. will provide an overview of several recent developments in copyright law, including the broad-ranging debate over SOPA and PIPA--two bills in Congress aimed at reducing online piracy--and the U.S. Supreme Court's recent decision in Golan v. Ashcroft--a case which challenged the constitutionality of a federal law extending the term of copyright protection for some works that were already in the public domain. Ms. Wheatland specializes in litigation and education law. Before joining JDO, Ms. Wheatland worked as a Copyright Research Fellow for the Copyright Principles Project at the Berkeley Center For Law & Technology. As part of that project, Ms. Wheatland was a signatory to a comprehensive proposal for copyright reform, and co-authored an article on copyright statutory damages. 1 General CLE Credit.
