“Corporations are people too!”- That is what the US Supreme Court said in its landmark decision of Citizens United v. Federal Elections Commission, when it ruled that corporations are the equal of human beings when it comes to First Amendment free-speech rights. The context of the case was political spending. The State Attorney General has now issued an opinion stating that some of Alaska’s campaign financing laws are likely unconstitutional in light of this decision, but others are not impacted. With the state and federal election campaigns gearing up, it is important you be able to guide your corporation through this maze of changing law.
