Section Meetings

  • Section meetings should be scheduled regularly throughout the year to educate and inform section members of timely, substantive topics in their area of practice.
  • The meetings are typically held during the lunch hour.
  • Section chairs can schedule meetings through the Bar’s section coordinator (currently, JoAnne Baker) bakerj@alaskabar.org or 272-7469.
  • The Bar Association will provide meeting space either in its conference room or some other suitable location that has a telephone connection with speakerphone capability.
  • The Bar will also provide telephone hookup for any section members outside of Anchorage who want to participate in the meetings.
  • All section meetings must be in a location with a telephone connection to hook-in out-of-Anchorage members. The Bar pays for or reimburses for telephone hookup for section members outside of Anchorage who want to participate in the meetings. There is no cost to the out-of-Anchorage member.
  • The chairperson, working with the section’s executive committee or any other interested members, determines meeting topics.
  • The dates and topics of the meetings are then announced in the monthly Section News. The newsletter is e-mailed to all section members with e-mail addresses and hard copies mailed to those without e-mail.
  • The Bar Association also sends reminder e-mails the week before and the day before each section meeting to section membership.
  • The Bar Association strongly suggests that section-meeting topics be announced so as to encourage membership participation and educational opportunities.
  • If there is no topic or activity for meetings, members will stop coming and sections will eventually go inactive.
  • CLE credit is typically available for 1.0 CLE credit hour for any substantive section meeting.
