Frontiers of Earthquake Engineering:
Shake, Rattle, and Roll

A presentation for the layman interested in a how advances in earthquake engineering are affecting the safety of Alaska's population and improving the built environment. Discussion topics will include Alaska's seismicity (why worry), historic damage (what happens), current local research (how to improve), current approaches (what we're doing). Mitigating personal injury and property damage during a seismic event will also be addressed. The audience will be taken on a brief damage tour around the world to show how post-earthquake damage assessment in other areas of the world affects what we do in Alaska.
