The Administrative Law section meets quarterly. The section will meet on Monday, September 12, 2011, at 12 noon at the Bar office.
OAH Opinion No. 2011-01 Discussion. On July 18, 2011, the Chief Administrative Law Judge of the Office of Administrative Hearings, Terry Thurbon, issued Opinion No. 2011-01. This opinion addresses several questions concerning the application of the Code of Hearing Officer Conduct to specific situations. Chief ALJ Thurbon will discuss the background, contents and practical application of that opinion and take questions. Click here to view the handouts. Alaska Native Law
The Alaska Native Law section will meet on Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at 12 noon at the Alaska Bar office.
Ahtna v. State of Alaska. Hear from Howard Trickey of Jermain, Dunnagan & Owens, regarding three current cases between Ahtna and the State of Alaska regarding land use issues. Pending before the Alaska Supreme Court is a matter involving “the bundle of property sticks” associated with a state material site. Two other superior court cases address appropriate uses in an RS2477 right-of-way and navigability of the Kotsina River. 1 General CLE Credit.

Alternative Dispute Resolution

HIPAA: Compliance is More than a Notice of Privacy Practices. Do you represent healthcare providers, or business associates (accountants, lawyers, consultants)? Many providers have instituted basic HIPAA policies and the required Notice of Privacy Practices, but may not really be compliant. HIPAA also requires security policies and a risk assessment to determine if the provider is adequately protecting information. Come to this session to learn more about what really needs to be done to be HIPAA compliant. 1 General CLE Credit.

Law and Community Health Forum
The Law & Community Health Forum section meets the second Tuesday of odd-numbered months. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at 12 noon at OPA, 900 W. 5th Avenue, 3rd Floor.
NACC Conference. A group of CINA participants attended the National Association of Counsel for Children (NACC) conference in San Diego at the end of August. The conference had a variety of tracks, including abuse and neglect, juvenile justice, family law, policy, and children’s law office programs. The Court Improvement Program funded this trip and requires participants to disseminate the information learned upon returning to Alaska. The presentation will be by some of the folks who attended the conference. 1 General CLE Credit.

The Unbundled Law section will meet three times a year for 1.5 hours (12 noon to 1:30 p.m.). The meetings for 2011 will be held on Fridays - May 13, September 9, and November 11. The next meeting will be on Friday, September 9, 2011, at 12 noon in Room 1270 of the Atwood Building.
Update. At the last meeting changes to the Unbundled List on the Bar’s website was discussed along with unbundled templates. At this meeting, templates will be provided and discussed along with a vote on members’ interest in replaying the Unbundled CLE previously provided by the Alaska Bar.
