Administrative Law
The Administrative Law section meets quarterly. The section will meet on Monday, June 6, 2011, at 12 noon at the Bar office.  This will be the last meeting until the fall.

Juneau Members:  You can attend section meetings at the Department of Law in the Dimond Courthouse (123 Fourth Street), 5th floor conference room.  Because the 5th floor is secure, access the meeting by going first to the department’s reception area on the 6th floor, opposite the main elevators. This location will be connected by conference call.

Admiralty Law
The Admiralty Law section meets quarterly.  The next meeting will be Thursday, May 12, 2011, at 12 noon at the Bar office.  This is the last meeting until the fall.

Roundtable Discussion.  The discussion will focus on local orders and on slip opinions issued nationwide since the last meeting, addressing maritime personal injury, punitive damages, and other issues pertinent to Alaska.

Alaska Native Law
The Alaska Native Law section will meet on Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at 12 noon at the Alaska Bar office. This will be the last meeting until the fall.

Speed Update.  Modeled after speed dating, your Executive Committee is going to provide you a speed Native Law update focusing on a quick-hit review of each area of our “expertise,” as it relates to Alaska Native issues.  Topics will range from congressional updates to practicing in Tribal Court.  Expect hits on land issues, ANCSA corporations, and natural resources.  1 General CLE Credit.

Alternative Dispute Resolution
The ADR section will meet on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at 12 noon at the Bar office.  This will be the last meeting until the fall.

“My Best Practice Tip.” The chairs challenge all members to bring one tip to share with other section members at this, the last meeting until September 8.  1 General CLE Credit.

Appellate Law
The section meets on odd-numbered months. The next meeting of the Appellate Law section will be Thursday, May 19, 2011, at 12 noon at the Department of Law, 5th Floor conference room, 1031 W. 4th Avenue, Anchorage.  Those in Juneau can attend the Department of Law 4th Floor Conference Room, 120 E. 4th St. This will be the last meeting until the fall.

Beef with the Chief.  Chief Justice Walter Carpeneti will be the meeting’s guest speaker via videoconference and telephone.  It will be a free form discussion with time for Q’s & A’s.  1 General CLE Credit.

Bankruptcy Law 
The Bankruptcy Law section will meet in May, 2011, at 12 noon in the U.S. Trustee’s Hearing Room in the Bankruptcy Court, 605 W. 4th Avenue.  It will NOT be on the regular meeting date.  As soon as we know the May date with the confirmed topic, an email will be send to the section.  The May meeting will be the last meeting until the fall.

Business Law  
The Business Law section meets quarterly.  The next meeting will be in October at 12 noon at Lane Powell, LLC in the Wells Fargo bank building at 301 W. Northern Lights Blvd, Suite 301.

Corporate Counsel
The Corporate Counsel Law section will meet on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at Stoel Rives, 510 L Street, Suite 500.  This will be the last meeting until the fall.

Update on New Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Regulations.  On March 15, 2011, the revised EEOC regulations under Title II and Title III of the ADA went into effect.  Looming are changes to accessible design standards which will go into effect next year.  To ensure that your organization stays in compliance and that your handbook, procedures and policies are up to date, join us for a discussion led by Danielle Ryman of Perkins Coie and co-chair of the Employment Law section.  She will walk members through the key regulatory changes. 1 General CLE Credit.  Pizza will be served.

Elder Law
The Elder Law section will meet on Thursday, May 19, 2011, at 12 noon at the Bar office. This will be the last meeting until the fall.

Elder Fraud.  Scott A. Sterling, Supervisory Attorney, Office of Elder Fraud and Assistance, will present an overview on handling of elder fraud and vulnerable adult exploitation claims, from the filing of a report of harm through the filing of a civil action.  This presentation is a joint effort of the office of Adult Protective Services and the Office of Elder Fraud and Assistance.  1 General CLE Credit.

Environmental/Natural Resources Law

Immigration Law
The Immigration Law section will meet with USCIS Field Office Director Bernadette Doody on Tuesday, May 24, at 12 noon at DHS Headquarters, 620 E. 10th Avenue, in the 3rd floor conference room.

Various Topics.  Discussion topics include USCIS’s policy on interviewing Special Immigrant Juvenile status applicants, and their policy on adjudicating I-485s when ICE has dismissed the removal proceedings for adjustment applicants who have no identified issues of inadmissibility. 1 General CLE Credit.

Intellectual Property Law

International Law
The International Law section will meet on Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at 12 noon at the Federal Public Defender office, 601 W. 5th Avenue, Suite 500. This will be the last meeting until the fall. The Business Law and Corporate Law sections as well as the New Lawyers section are invited to attend this meeting.

US and EU Economic Sanctions.  Jay Seymour, a senior trade law attorney at BP, will be the guest speaker.  He will be presenting over the phone onus and EU Economic Sanctions on various countries but primarily Iran, Syria, Libya and Cuba. Mr. Seymour will cover the sanctions, the penalties, and the differences between the US and EU sanctions and, time permitting, share some anecdotes from his experiences.  1 General CLE Credit.

Life Insurance Options & Library Resources.  Brooks Chandler of Boyd, Chandler & Falconer will be providing an informational presentation on the current programs, resources and use of the library on behalf of Friends of the Library.  Doug Hartman from NY Life will be presenting on life insurance plans and other issues pertinent to young lawyers.  Please join us for these interesting speakers! Torts/Personal Injury Law
The Torts/Personal Injury Law section meets every odd-numbered month. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at 12 noon in the Bar office.  

Torts Law Update.  Come join in a lively discussion of cases from this year, both for the Alaska Supreme Court and trial courts.  And bring any orders you may have received in cases that you would like to share with other members (or email them to Rebecca@Wildersonlaw.net in advance, so copies can be made available for others). Unbundled Law
The Unbundled Law section will meet three times a year for 1.5 hours (12 noon to 1:30 p.m.). The meetings for 2011 will be held on Fridays - May, 13, September 9, and November 11.  The next meeting will be on Friday, May 13, 2011 at 12 noon in the Bar office.

Orientation to Unbundled Law.  Newly appointed chairs, Katherine Alteneder and Kara Nyquist, will lead a discussion on web placement and management of the Unbundled List provided to the public. Anyone who wishes to be on the Unbundled List made available to the public by the Bar Association should attend this meeting.  This meeting will create an action plan for meetings over the next year and discuss the many resources available to attorneys practicing unbundled by orientation to members on a selection of the available forms, templates and resources to aid an unbundled practice.   Ethics and/or General CLE Credit to be determined after the meeting.
