This webinar series will focus on significant issues affecting federal management of ocean resources in Alaska.
The first and second parts of the series will highlight the interactions between environmental laws and fisheries management. These webinars will include background on federal statutes and regulations affecting fisheries and ocean management and the ways in which they have come into play in Alaska. One major focus will be issues surrounding fisheries and Steller sea lions. The Arctic Fishery Management Plan will be covered with a brief overview of federal efforts to implement Coastal and Marine Spatial Planning.
The third part in the series will provide an overview of federal regulation of offshore oil and gas activities. The presentation will include a basic description of the relevant federal and state laws and regulations, the current status of leasing in federal waters in Alaska, and the ways in which the process has been affected by the Deepwater Horizon accident.
