HIPAA Omnibus Rules – The BIG Changes. Stephen Rose, Chair of the Healthcare Law Department of Garvey Schubert Barer, will be the guest speaker. This presentation will offer a very high-level view of the major HIPAA changes brought about by the HIPAA Omnibus Rules published in the January 25, 2013, Federal Register: 1) The New “Harm” Standard: determining when an “incident” becomes a “breach” requiring notification; 2) Business Associates: Applying HITECH privacy and security rules to business associates and subcontractors; 3) Changes to Notice of Privacy Practices: A review of the mandatory changes to the standard NPP and 4) Enforcement and Civil Monetary Penalties: OCR carries a bigger stick (time permitting). 1 General CLE Credit.
