(See School-Community page on the court’s website: http://www.courts.alaska.gov/outreach.htm#coj ) I do not currently practice law but through my work for the court system I can present on such topics as: the structure of the Alaska Court System and the role of courts; Alaska Constitutional law (“Constitutional Cranium”); what judges and lawyers do; the importance of a diverse judiciary; ensuring fair and impartial courts (judicial independence); and judicial selection & retention in Alaska. Most of my experience has been as an organizer of LRE events and programs, not in the classroom. I have helped coordinate workshops on a variety of legal topics, such as juvenile justice, the Indian Child Welfare Act and Native Subsistence Rights. Finally, I have developed scripts of the Brown v. Board case and of the voting age debate at Alaska’s Constitutional Convention, both of which can be presented by a class of students during a single class period.
