Elder Appreciation and Wills Clinic

Table of Contents

The Clinic will likely be scheduled during the AFN Convention (Oct 22-24, 2026, in Anchorage). Check back in August for details.

About the Clinic

The Elder Appreciation and Wills Clinic is an annual clinic typically held during the Alaska Federation of Natives Convention in Anchorage in October each year. Volunteer attorneys draft wills, powers of attorney, and advance health care directives for low-income Alaskans. In addition, there will be resource tables with services and information on topics relevant to Elders.

What to Expect

Appointments for Estate Planning Document Preparation:
Clients will have a two-hour appointment with a volunteer attorney, who will draft your Will, Power of Attorney, or Advance Health Care Directive. You must pre-register for an appointment. See below for how to pre-register.

Resource Tables
No appointment is required for the resource tables with services and information on topics relevant to Elders. We encourage you to drop by! Check back here for updates on what services and information will be offered.

How to Attend the Clinic

Complete the Intake Form
You must complete this Intake Form and return it to the Alaska Bar Association if you would like to have a volunteer attorney prepare your Will, Power of Attorney, and/or Advance Health Care Directive. Couples should each fill out a separate intake form but may write “see spouse’s form” if some information is identical.

Get an Appointment
We will contact you in August, after we have received confirmation on the exact clinic date, to schedule your appointment. If we have cancellations, we will try to accommodate walk-ins, but we urge you to complete the intake form and send it to us as soon as possible because we cannot guarantee that we can serve everyone. Appointments will be scheduled on a first come, first served basis. Make sure to check the email address you provided for the confirmation.

Get Ready for Your Appointment
You should bring with you to your appointment:

  • Your government-issued ID (like an Alaska driver license, passport, or birth certificate),
  • Copies of deeds for all real estate and native allotments you own,
  • A copy of your intake form (and review it to make sure it is complete and reflects your wishes), and
  • Your current will, power of attorney, and advance health care directive, if you have them.

Go to Your Appointment
Your confirmation email will have detailed instructions on where to go for your appointment.
